Plan a rural community tourism activity.  These activities are the primary means of income for the Center, and each activity helps support our operation as well as providing income for the local person providing the activity.   Our rural community service activities are different from regular tourism offerings in important ways.  First of all, SCLC rural community tourism activities are not the commercially available tours that most hotels sell since we look for activities that are small-scale and not set up as a business in the traditional sense.  We offer activities that aim to provide meaningful engagement with the local people; we want the local provider (be they a farmer, homemaker, or artisan) to learn as much from you as you will from them.   And finally, our rural community tourism activities support our mission of helping to support sustainable ways of life.   Click here to browse our activities and make a reservation.

Whether as a Volunteer at the SCLC or from afar, there are so many important roles and tasks that are needed for the Center. Our onsite Volunteer Programs are a critical engine for the Center, especially for our EFL program. However, help is very welcome even for those that would like to collaborate from afar or cannot do a full onsite volunteer program. Here are some of the skills that we need at different intervals: copy writing, grant writing, translations English-Spanish or vice-versa, accounting expertise (especially Quickbooks), non-profit management, fundraising, etc.

Pack for a Purpose is a program that enables travelers to identify philanthropic organizations near the areas that they will be visiting and bring needed supplies for their organization. Through this organization, visitors to Selva Verde Lodge & Private Reserve and other lodges in the area learn about the Center and our programs. The supply list on Pack for a Purpose corresponds to the library program, the school supply packages, and art supplies for a group of artisans in our area.
